Position: Research Assistant / Software Developer - St. Francis Xavier University - Centre for Logic and Information

Location: Antigonish, Nova Scotia

About Us:

The StFX Centre for Logic and Information, established in 2007, has been developed out of an ACOA Atlantic Innovation Fund (AIF) Grant supporting the project, Building Decision-support through Dynamic Workflow Systems for Health Care. Located at StFX University in Antigonish, NS, a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, industry and healthcare professionals, research the conceptual, scientific and technological problems for the design and development of dynamic verifiable workflow software systems for applications to healthcare. Our research interests include such topics as modeling, verification, both model checking and automated theorem proving, ontology building and merging, model driven architecture, security, high performance computing, logic programming.

General Responsibilities:

  • Working in tandem with the researchers and PI at the StFX Centre for Logic and Information, the candidate will:
  • Support the design, implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and documentation of research prototypes
  • Participate in a fast paced collaborative R&D project to develop workflow applications for health service delivery
  • Provide a conduit from the researchers to an industry partner and interact with health care professionals
  • Be familiar with, or be willing to learn, distributed and parallel computing methodologies
  • A small percentage of time will be on technical support.

Specifications:

  • The successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • BSc in Computer Science or related area, with strong programming skills
  • 3-5 years previous experience
  • An interest or experience in developing software directed to model checking based verification, and/or logical programming, in the high performance computing environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills and follow-through to meet deadlines
  • Ambition, a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities and campaigns

Additional (not required) Assets:

  • Previous experience in an R&D project(s); and/or Previous experience in a collaborative project.
  • We are looking for someone to join our team and relocate to Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
  • Anticipated start date is July 12.
